Deadly Weapon/Firearm Ordinance (No. 95-19)
A person shall not possess on or about his person a deadly
weapon (loaded or unloaded firearm, or weapon, device, taser,
electronic stun gun, chemical substance excluding mace, knife
or explosives or other material that in the manner it is
used, could ordinarily be used or is intended to be used,
is readily capable of causing serious bodily injury) or firearm
within the following buildings under the jurisdiction of
the Johnson County Board of Commissioners:
Johnson County
Court House
Johnson County Annex
Wright Building
Bank One Building
Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center
Johnson County Animal
Shelter
This ordinance does not apply to law enforcement officers,
Indiana Department of Correction Officers, duly elected or
appointed judicial or probation officers, Community Corrections
Staff, or employees of the United States duly authorized
to carry deadly weapons or firearms. The above persons being
exempt shall not be exempt if they, or any of them, is a
party to any preceding taking place in court.
Any person violating the provisions of this Ordinance shall
be subject to the penalty imposed for a Class C infraction
as provided in I.C. 34-4-32-4 and be subject to having the
deadly weapon or firearm confiscated by the proper law enforcement
officials and shall be eligible to retrieve said deadly weapon
or firearm after a waiting period of forty-eight (48) hours.
This
ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after
the 26th day of June 1995.
