Sheriff's Canine Nabs Burglars
Johnson County Sheriff's Deputy
Travis Derrett and his Canine partner Centa received a call from the Sheriff's
dispatchers of a Burglary In-Progress at the Country Style Boutique at 111 North
State Road 135 in Trafalgar, Indiana. Since the Trafalgar Police
Department had no one on duty, Sheriff's Deputies and a Bargersville Police
Officer were dispatched. Officer's determined that an attempted Burglary
had indeed occurred. Derrett and Centa began checking the area and tracked
a suspect away from the business where he was laying on his stomach in a farm
field attempting to hide. They took the suspect (who has a lengthy arrest
record) into custody. The man was already under investigation for several
other crimes in the area, and he admitted to investigator's that he and his
co-conspirator were trying to break into the business to get some money. A
second suspect, a juvenile, was also quickly located nearby and taken into
custody. Sheriff's Evidence Technician Bill Baldwin was summonsed and he
recovered evidentiary prints from the business. Trafalgar Town Marshal W.
Johnson arrived and took custody of the prisoners. Thanks to the good work
and inter-agency cooperation of Deputy Derrett, Centa, the Bargersville Police,
and all the other units on the scene, two more Burglars have been removed from
the streets of Johnson County.
