Sheriff's SCUBA Team Rescues Elderly Couple

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office Water Rescue Team was called into action on Friday, March 10, 2006. Sheriff's dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call reporting an occupied vehicle stranded in fast moving floodwaters. SCUBA team members were dispatched to the area. Upon their arrival, they found that the rising water had trapped an elderly couple in their vehicle on County Road 725E south of Greensburgh Road near Smiley's Mill. Sheriff's SCUBA team members Major Randy Werden, Lieutenant Randy Spivey and Detective Duane Burgess were able to pull the couple from their passenger car without incident. The team members then assisted Paris Wrecker Service in pulling the vehicle out of the hazardous moving floodwater. Everyone escaped this incident without injury. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office would like to remind all travelers to not bypass High Water caution signs and do not cross water moving across the roadways.
