Training at the JCSO
(May 20, 2006)

Training: Emergency Vehicle Operations

Training is an ongoing part of a law enforcement career. Often called "continuing education," all members of the department routinely engage in training involving updated tactics and techniques. Staff member Robert Farris oversees training for the entire agency. Bob ensures that all required topics mandated by the State of Indiana are covered thoroughly and additional training in new tactics, ideas, and technology are implemented as needed. In mid May, the Sheriff's Road Division, Jail Division, and Investigations Division members conducted Emergency Vehicle Operations training. Instructors Andy Fisher and Brian Blankenship organized the event. All members of the agency were directed through the course using whatever type of vehicle they are issued: Jailers used Jail vans, and Road Deputies used a Police Interceptor. The course is a pass/fail scenario with "time" and "number of cones struck" being a factor. The above picture shows Motorcycle Deputy Steve Wray on the driving course.
