JOHNSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
On February 21, 2004 at 3:57 P.M. the Johnson
County Sheriff's Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from Michael
Duprile of Greenwood. Michael reported that he was checking on the welfare
of John Richards, 46, who resided at 1656 Old State Road 37 in Greenwood.
Michael and another friend, Brian Barrett of
Indianapolis, knocked on the doors and windows of the residence in an attempt to
get the attention of John Richards. Not receiving an answer, the pair went
to the front door and entered the residence finding John Richards deceased in
Upon the arrival of Johnson County Sheriff's
Sergeant Perry Wilson and Deputy Tom Shively, it was determined that this was a
crime scene and that foul play was involved. The Sheriff's Investigation
Division team were summonsed to the residence.
A search warrant was obtained from the
Johnson County Prosecutor's Office. The warrant was served, and the
following individual was found deceased from an apparent gunshot wound on the
master bedroom floor: John H. Richards of 1656 Old State Road 37, Greenwood,
Indiana 46143. John is a forty-six (46) year old white male standing 7'0"
tall and weighing 306 pounds.
The suspect(s) used forced entry to gain
access into the home. This case is being investigated as a homicide, and
the Investigations Division is currently interviewing those who last had contact
with John Richards.
An autopsy is currently being conducted and
the results are pending.
